Propecia (a brand name for finasteride) is a prescription medicine used for the treatment of male-pattern baldness. Male-pattern baldness is a hereditary condition caused by an excess of hormones called androgens.
Popecia is the only prescription pill used to treat hair loss in men. Propecia taken once a day is proven to stop the hair loss process and increase hair growth. propecia is a small pill containing 1mg of the drug finasteride. Propecia inhibits the production of DHT which in most men will bring the level below the hair growth threshold. As long as the patient is taking Propecia the level will remain reduced and the hair loss will be reduced or stopped. In some cases some of the hairs will even grow back out. When high levels of a naturally occurring hormone called DHT are present in the scalps of men genetically disposed to Male Pattern Hair Loss, the growth phase of hair is shortened. Eventually, the hairs become so small as to be practically invisible. This can result in the classic male bald hairline if it is not stopped.
